social-icons-51Social Media is defined as, “Computer-mediated technologies that allow the creating and sharing of information, ideas, career interests and other forms of expression via virtual communities and networks.”¬†Facebook, the most popular social media platform, has over 1.79 billion active users alone. Then there’s Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, Tumblr, YouTube, Pinterest, LinkedIn, and Google+, just to name a few others among the many platforms.

Currently I use Facebook and Twitter for both personal and business use, Snapchat and Instagram for personal use, and LinkedIn for more business/networking purposes. I use different social media sites to promote my photography and work with the SCSU athletics department.

Even though I may use Facebook and Instagram equally as much, I find Twitter to be more of a community of people I enjoy interacting with. My Twitter feed is filled with people and topics that I enjoy, such as hockey and dogs, and accounts I follow that simply make me laugh. In my opinion, and in my experience, Twitter is the most positive social media platform, in that, I tailor my feed to subjects I find enjoyable.

I use my Twitter as both a professional and personal account. I tried using two separate accounts, but didn’t like having to switch back and forth and found myself not posting enough on either. As long as you can conduct your personal accounts with a certain amount of professionalism, I would recommend using just one account to connect the best with your audience.
